Robert Bouten takes home three gold medals at he National Championships and Dutch Open 2009 white water slalom.

Robert Bouten, mechanical engineering student at TU Delft, is living proof that studying and practicing professional sport go extremelu well together. On Sundag 18 October 2009, Robert rounded off a fantastic White Water Slalom season with a gold medal at the Dutch Open. He finishes 7th in the semi-finales, going on to beat ex-world champions Cipressi (2006) and Combot (2007) before finishing with the fastest time.
Bouten also notched up his fifth national title in a row in the Dutch K1 (kayak single) event. What made this a particularly special championships for Robert was the fact that he combined his normal K1 discipline with the C1 canoe class to win a gold medal.
With the season now at a close, Bouten can focus on his studies again in earnest. Untill February, that is when he wil be back out on the water for winter training and preparing for the next European and World Championships. A common thread in all his canoe activities is his long-term goal to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games.
